Hi, folks. Richard Mandel here, chief pitchman and patron of the RE1.5 REvisited
project. I'm officially back from vacation now, and it's good to see all of you again. I had a lot of fun, but the fun's done and now it's time to get back to work.
Actually, I was working even as I was on vacation. I've now set up and have running a more general purpose dA site on which I can do things other than Resident Evil
stuff. It's also where I'll be doing all of my writing projects and web comics as well, save the ones directly related to the content of this
site. It's called Digital Explorations, and here's the link:digitalexplorations.deviantart…
I hope you enjoy the two custom Elza Walker models I gave you today. I had originally planned for them to be part of our now-cancelled fall 2017 "cleanup" release cycle, but I'm giving them to you now since that's not going to happen anymore. Why? Several reasons. One, I'm not going to have the time to do it. You see, I'm starting "Hammer School" this weekend, now that I'm back. I'm going to be learning how to use Valve's Hammer 3D editor so I can make my own retail-quality scenery maps, like all those I ported for you two months ago. A lot of younger folks today might complain that Source engine stuff is low quality compared with what's being done today, but it happens to be almost perfect for use with XNALara XPS
. Also, I've been very impressed by what people have done with the Source engine even though it's so "OLD," if you know what I mean. (laugh) Once I master Hammer, I can use it in conjunction with Nem's Crafty
tool to create and port whatever scenery I want for XNALara XPS
. That's going to take a while, though, and it's going to be a big pull on my time. That's one reason why I won't have time anymore to manage big model release cycles. Two, and this is a personal irk with me, I'm tired of being a free model source for all those people out there who are either too lazy to learn how to do this stuff themselves, or are simply grabbing all the free 3D models they can "so I can use them with my web comics." Hey, if an old fart like me can learn how to do this stuff, then you can too -- so that's no excuse. Furthermore, I'm doing my own web comics now, and I don't have time to make free models for yours. I hope my fellow XNA
and 3D artist who actually DO work hard on their efforts won't take offense at what I've just said, because it's not directed at you. You guys and gals know who I'm talking about, because many of you have had to deal with this bunch of freetards and vidiots yourself. That's another reason why my model output is going to drop rather dramatically in the months to come. Three, there's my new web site, my new writing effort (Resident Evil: Projekt Regenschirm
), and my own web comics (Reality Check, Resident Sleuths,
et al.) Working on those and other creative efforts takes up a lot of my free time, too. Again, this is one of the reasons why my personal model output is going waaaaaaay down in the months to come. I won't be releasing any 3D models AT ALL over at DigitalExplorations, even though I'm making them and customizing existing ones for use with my own creative efforts. I just don't have the time anymore, and I'm tired of putting up with the free model moochers. I hope you understand ... and I'm pretty sure my fellow XNA
and 3D artists do, too.
There's also something else I'd like to say on a related matter. I've grown to love the patron
role more than I do the pitchman role. There's all kinds of talented people out there in the dA community, and some of them visit this site. I've love for you to contribute -- and if your work is good enough, and you're wiling to commit yourself, then I would enjoy patronizing your efforts. That seed money I originally saved up almost four years ago now for my own private RE1.5
effort has grown and blossomed with my investments, and I now have funds available to patronize artists of all stripes who would be willing to commit to various RE1.5 REvisited
related art projects. I'll be talking about that at length once I post a site artwork commission offer -- and it's coming, folks. I'd dearly love for more of you to contribute, and not just the 3D stuff, either. In addition to my many other talents, I was a pen-and-ink artist in my youth, took several art classes, and even drew my own amateur comic strips for a number of years in my youth. I WANT art in traditional media as well as digital media, and I'm especially
looking for folks skilled in either the Western comic book or Eastern manga/anime art styles. More on that when I post that commission offer. Finally, and I'm saying this because I know someone's going to suggest it, I'm not interested in the slightest in Paetron. I've already looked at it and don't care for it. I prefer to sponsor my artists on my own, with my own funds, and with no middleman
-- if you get my meaning. I think you do. I've got two excellent artists right now who I'm patronizing, and we have wonderful relationships. I and the site have benefited from their efforts as much (if not more) than they've benefitted from my patronage. I'd like to patronize more of you ... if I can find the right artists with the right talents, or those who are willing to take some of the creative load off of the two 3D artists I'm currently patronizing (DXP and Marcelievsky). So there you go. I hope those of you who really can help RE1.5 REvisited
will seriously think about it, because we could use your help ... and you'll be rewarded for your efforts, too, and not just with "attaboys."
One more thing before I go. The name of this site is going to change on 1 July 2017. The new name is going to be SurvivalHorrorXNA
. With the end of the RE1.5 REvisited
project proper, and with our expanding our content with other Resident Evil
related content back in April, I think the time has come for us to go ahead and continue that broadening process. I mean, there's so many other Resident Evil
games out there for which we don't have 3D models or don't have a complete set! The Outbreak
series, CODE: Veronica
(I'm thinking of the room models that were missing in REDC
), Dead Aim
(and thank you MarcRC97 for starting the process with that one!), Gun Survivor
, Resident Evil Gaiden
(that one's kinda slipped into the cracks!), and last but not least the mighty Resident Evil 3!
Not to mention all of the other survival horror games that are out there, both past and present. A lot of people have tapped those already, such as the Silent Hill
series, but there's always more there that no one ever rips or ports. It'll give our site contributors more to do and more flexibility in doing it, since they won't be limited to just one cancelled Resident Evil
videogame anymore. So that big change is coming effective 1 July 2017, and this site's going to be remodeled accordingly. It'll still be the official home of the RE1.5 REvisited
project, but with this change we hope to be able to offer you even more as time goes on. We hope you'll be there with us when it happens.
Thanks for your support -- and for using our stuff in your own projects and efforts!
